5 things we learned from the game

The boys in sky blue did not disappoint on their return to the premier league with an impressive 3-0 against Arsenal. Here are the 5 things we learned from the game.

  • KDB is back with a bang

There are simply not enough words to describe just how good a player Kevin De Bruyne is. He came into this game with the kind of energy and verve you don’t expect from a player who hasn’t played in three months. He was involved in Manchester city’s most important passage of play with defense splitting passes and a game high two big chances created. His exquisite ball behind the defense created the first goal with David Luiz fumbling the ball for sterling to volley into the back of the net. His penalty extended the lead for city and he was withdrawn with over 20 minutes left to play in an attempt to keep his fresh for Monday's tie against burnley.

  • Arsenal's unfortunate woes
Source (Arsenal)

Arsenal's unfortunate injury woes for most part of the season are well documented but no better example than the game on wednesday night after being forced into making a substitution as early as the fourth minute and losing new signing Mari to another injury some minutes later. Arteta has a huge task on his hands over at Arsenal if they intend to make Europe this season.

  • Laporte solid on his return

Laporte has been missing in action for a large part of the season and performances like the one he had further highlights why he’s the main man at the back for city. He snuffed out anything resembling of an attack for Arsenal with considerable ease. Pep would be glad to have him back, he was withdrawn early due to the recovery concerns of the coach against Monday nights tie against burnley

  • Ederson’s build up play

Ederson has been an incredible signing for city in his time so far but has drawn scrutiny from fans this season. On Wednesday nights though he showed why he is an important cog of Pep’s machine with his passing range which almost ended up in an assist early on for Riyad Mahrez who couldn’t finish  the incredible pass from his goalie. That didn’t deter Ederson from playing another one which this time lead to a penalty and city duly doubled their lead from the spot.

  • The impact of the subs

When the premier league rolled out the option of five subs being made available to the teams, I knew city had the most to benefit from this due to the quality squad depth. The subs in the game against Arsenal made a positive influence on the game with the fresh legs they provided. Bernardo came into the game brimming with energy all over the pitch, Fernandinho was spraying passes all over the pitch, Agüero played less than 15 minutes and he was able to show why he is the main man for city up top with his attempts on goal albeit he was unfortunate not to have scored later on with his shot at goal being deflected by Leno into the path of another substitute Phil Foden who put it into the back of the net.

  1. Aguero is a striker indeed.Didn't play much of the time, but he struck the goal post which rebounded for Phil's goal.
    Glad we started well.
